May 17, 2026 marks IDAHOBIT again. It stands for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. Many German cities participate in this day.

Over 50 German cities have planned special events. People gather to show that queerphobia is unacceptable. They want to draw attention to LGBTQ+ rights.

There are different types of events. Some cities organize rallies. These are public gatherings where people protest together. Speakers discuss the fight for equal rights.

Other cities plan a Rainbow Flashmob. Flashmobs bring people together suddenly in public places. They wear rainbow colors and show community strength.

Friendly picnics are also planned. They welcome everyone who wants to participate. People can meet in a safe environment. The goal is building community and making friendships.

IDAHOBIT is celebrated every year on May 17. This date was deliberately chosen. On May 17, 1990, homosexuality was removed from the World Health Organization's disease list. That was an important step for LGBTQ+ people worldwide.

Germany has recently focused on queer rights. Yet many LGBTQ+ people still experience discrimination and violence. IDAHOBIT events are more than celebration. They are political statements.

Organizations and activists call everyone to participate. Both LGBTQ+ people and allies are welcome. Equal rights matter for everyone. Together, people stand stronger against queerphobia.

Find event information in your city via local queer organizations and websites. Exact programs will be announced closer to the date.
