Anti-Queer Hatred Grows: Are LGBTI People Themselves to Blame?

Some claim the LGBTI community is too loud and too visible. This is dangerous victim-blaming and right-wing propaganda.

Some people say: The LGBTI community is too loud. It is too visible. It is too extreme. Therefore, many people have a problem with it.

This accusation is dangerous. It twists the truth around. Victims become perpetrators. This is a known tactic of right-wing politics.

But is this really true? Are queer people themselves responsible for hostility toward them?

The answer is clear: No. Anti-queer hatred is never the fault of those affected. Nobody is responsible for being discriminated against.

History teaches us something important. Fights for equality were always loud and visible. The women's movement was loud. The civil rights movement was loud. And that was right.

LGBTI people have always fought loudly for their rights. The uprising at Stonewall Bar was loud. The first Pride parades were loud. Without this visibility, queer people would have no rights today.

Nobody gets rights by staying silent. Nobody gains recognition by hiding. This is a simple truth.

The claim that visibility causes hatred is false. Hatred stems from prejudice and bigotry. Not from the existence of queer people.

Anti-queer attacks are increasing. This is a serious danger. Politicians must take action. Society must protect queer people.

Instead, the community is blamed for attacks against itself. This is not only wrong. It is also dangerous. It distracts from the real problem: growing hatred.

Queer people have the right to be visible. They have the right to be loud. They have the right to be proud. These rights are no provocation. They are simply human rights.

The question should not be: Are queer people too visible? The question must be: Why is hatred against LGBTI people tolerated?
